From the minute we removed the packaging on our new Ashley Buttoned Stool in Stone Linen we knew we’d made the right decision. Before then we had reservations: no movement on price from Cotswold despite multiple-item purchase, repeat custom or signing up to newsletter. It also took an age coming into stock but was ordered during global lockdown so we gave Cotswold the benefit of doubt. In fairness, due to the wait we were upgraded to express delivery which was easy to arrange & on-time. The stool arrived assembled & in perfect order. A very solid piece of furniture designed & constructed with quality, we were very pleasantly surprised by its stability & sturdiness. Styling & stature are both fairly modern while the deep-padded buttoned seat adds a touch of class & is comfortable for prolonged daily use. The material covering the sides & seat seems extremely hard wearing, likeable to sack cloth or hessian albeit more attractive - I don’t envisage this becoming threadbare any decade soon. Design & colour goes well with neutral/natural/earthy tones & the built-in compartment is lined, spacious & a Godsend for homes lacking storage. Can’t emphasize enough how chunky the walls, base & seat are, or how securely the seat slots into place – I can almost imagine these being stood on by circus elephants. The overall weight & lack of handles makes the stool fairly impractical to move about the home, especially if full. However, it can be nudged around a dressing table fairly easily by foot or hands. Four small plastic feet on the underside anchor & stabilize the stool well on deep pile carpet. Build quality on another planet compared to Scandinavian flat-pack, DIY chains or a certain high street catalogue retailer you might ‘Go’ to. Should withstand several house moves & years of use - when we pull Skynet’s plug, only cockroaches & this stool will be left standing. Cheaper stools are available but none display the same durability, design consideration, finish or economic sense. After owning several Cotswold pieces I’m now convinced these qualities feature across the whole range & we’ve since ordered a second Ashley stool for the bathroom. Substantial outlay but you definitely get what you pay for & worth the wait. If this kind of dresser stool is what you're looking for you won't be disappointed.
