Our tables are strong, functional and durable, so teasing out their ‘fancy, feminine’ side can sometimes be a little tricky! Here’s where the humble chair comes in; not only is it an integral component of your dining set, but a way to embellish the simple style of your table and add a touch of your personality at the same time. It’s amazing how giving your chair design a refresh can instantly change the look of your dining room. So we’ve compiled a collection of our favourites, to give you some inspiration…
Oak
If you’re aiming for a classic country look and you want something that feels substantial and solid, Oak is the only way to go. Our range of Oak chairs will give you a sturdy place to perch and strong upper arm muscles in one simple purchase! Oak chairs are chunky and built to last, so if you need something robust and hard wearing, you can’t go wrong with this kind of chair.
If you want the warm oak finish but you’d prefer something a little more lightweight, take a look at the Epsom Oiled Oak Range. It’s great looking and amazingly affordable.
Lightweight & Ornate
These bistro chairs wouldn’t look out of place gathered ‘al fresco’ outside a Tuscan restaurant, but we think teaming these with one of our Oak or Pine tables is the perfect way to add a little bit of femininity. The classic, curved, crossed back design and woven seat, is refined and elegant and yet still a little rustic. This style also provides a clear and airy view through its frame, which immediately makes a dining area feel lighter and brighter.
Pine
Our Dorchester Pine Range typifies the quintessential English country kitchen look. If you love traditional carpentry and the knotted grainy appearance of the trusted pine tree, our Dorchester Chair couldn’t be more perfect. If you want to really drive home the country look in your home and create a space for you and your family to gather, you can’t surpass the joys of owning your very own rocking chair. Take a look at the pine option in our Dorchester range or opt for the cream version from our Bourton Range.
Painted
Adding in a painted finish to your chairs can be a great way to introduce a splash of colour to your dining area. Many of our painted ranges are a mix of paint and oak or paint and pine, so it’s easy to mix and match them with an oak or pine table. There are some great colour options among our painted chair ranges but we particularly love our Lundy Grey Range, which has a fabric seat for extra comfort, so you can natter away after an evening meal without getting a numb bum.
Fabric
Fabric chairs are a great way of introducing texture to your dining space. If you find wooden chairs a little ‘heavy’ in more ways than one, fabric chairs can really brighten up your dining space and soften some of the hard edges caused by the dining table. We have some beautiful shades of fabric chairs in a range of luscious linens.
The tactile finish of these linen chairs enhances the look of this oak dining table beautifully.` Their natural woven finish even works well in the bedroom, which is handy if you want to keep spare chairs dotted around the house, ready for a special occasion.
Leather
If you’re opting for fabric, but you want something ‘wipe clean’ and practical, our leather seats are a great option. If you have young children, maintaining a clean fabric chair may be a little unrealistic at mealtimes, so leather can give you a little contrast to the wood, while still providing something that won’t absorb any spillages!
Take a look at our Light Oak Shaker Chairs if you like the idea of a leather seat pad, with a beautifully crafted oak frame. By simply changing the chair design from full leather to shaker, this dining table’s look is totally transformed.
Modern Retro
This range is a nod to a design classic that’s seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years. Add this Eames Style Chair to a classic Oak or Pine table and it will be instantly elevated into the 21st century. It provides some welcome contrast to your dining table, particularly if you have a large expanse of wood. This range comes in 4 colours, so you can mix and match or simply stick to one statement colour. Whichever your choice, this style just makes the whole look a little more youthful and playful, so have fun with your choice of colour!
