From lighting a candle to grabbing a precious hour to yourself with a cup of tea, autumn is about creating intimacy at home and finding moments of joy and relaxation
1. RISE AND RITUAL
Now is the time to create new rituals and delight in simple moments. Enjoy a steaming pot of tea or read in bed for half an hour, before the family appears. Invest in yourself now to reap the rewards in spring.
2. HEARTH AND HOME
Prepare for coming days cosied up by the fireplace playing board games by using a woven basket to display your logs. Then light a fire and snuggle up.
3. DEEP CLEAN AND DECLUTTER
This is a time to reclaim your home and, with cosy days and nights in ahead, a good declutter now will save you headaches later. Make way for autumn‘s harvest by cleaning out your pantry and investing in (and labelling) storage jars for dried goods.
4. WARM UP YOUR FURNISHINGS
Autumn isn’t just a season, it’s a way of life. Update your cushions and add throws and blankets in seasonal shades to bring extra warmth to your favourite places around the home.
5. FORAGE FOR FLOURISHES
Deep evergreens and earthy, bronzed foliage create a visual feast when walking in autumn. Forage some while you’re out and mix with dried or fresh flowers in vases when home.
6. MAKE BEDTIME BLISS TIME
Comfort is personal, but warmth is essential for the winter nights ahead. Swap in a high-tog duvet, new bed linen and layer up quilts, blankets and bedspreads in deep tones and soft fabrics. Add softness to the room with rugs and throws, or a fluffy sheepskin number draped over an armchair.
7. ENHANCE THE MOOD
The simple act of lighting a candle can make a huge difference to the ambience of your home. Clusters of candles in a mix of sizes set the scene for long cosy nights indoors.
8. FRESHEN UP TO SETTLE DOWN
Not the kind of person to paint a seasonal feature wall? Nor are we. But more time spent inside means more time noticing areas of the home that could do with a bit of tender loving care. Go on. Give your walls a fresh coat of paint, or revarnish that coffee table.
9. BRING THE OUTSIDE IN
Greenery inside reminds us of the endless possibilities of life beyond the windows. A selection of airpurifying houseplants will keep you surrounded by nature until the return of spring.
10. FEED YOUR SOUL
Dust off your recipe books and plan nourishing dishes and feasts that will see you through the season. Gather family and friends and treat them to a slow-cooked roast or stew. Keep an eye on our seasonal recipes for more like these.
