An Edwardian home with a country farmhouse feel, Sarah talks us through her renovations, her interiors style and what’s next on the to-do list…
“We have lived here for five years,” Sarah, of @hearts_at_claremont, tells us. “I knew it was the right home for us as soon as I walked in! The roses and blossom tree in the front garden were such a lovely welcome and the porch and hallway are both so inviting.”
DATED DECOR
When they moved in, the walls and fireplaces were given a lick of paint to freshen them up. Sarah tells us they decided to live in the house for a while before undertaking any big renovations.
“We lived with a dated kitchen and bathroom for quite a while before fully renovating, but it gave us the chance to figure out exactly how we wanted to utilise the space and how we needed it work for family life. The renovations have worked out so well and we wouldn’t change a thing.”
COUNTRY LOVING
When the decorating did begin, the colour palette and farmhouse-inspired furnishings Sarah chose were sympathetic to the age and charm of the house. “We have lots of original features and very unusual original cottage-style windows (which I love!) so the country farmhouse look blends well. I have always loved this style of décor and think I always will!
“I love all things scandi/boho and have managed to blend a few ‘on trend’ items in with my existing décor. The Snug, which used to be the children’s playroom, is an example of this.”
PRETTY AND PRACTICAL
With many Cotswold Company pieces finding a home in Sarah’s house, we wanted to hear a little bit more about her favourites.
“The Cotswold Company is without any doubt my favourite place for furniture! I love every single piece and everything is so well made and aesthetically beautiful too. I love it when pretty is also practical and for me, every Cotswold Company piece ticks this box.
“I love sitting in my pink blush velvet Cotswold Company Grace armchair. Its my favourite spot for reading/thinking and having a bit of time out.
“We love our Ellwood trestle table dining set and our comfortable Morris sofas. The neutral colours work really well to create a restful, inviting cosy home. They are perfect for busy family life.”
STYLING WITH THE SEASONS
Recently trying her hand at a spot of DIY panelling – “I was scared I’d mess it up but it was actually really easy. It turned out so much better than I had imagined!” – Sarah admits she loves decorating her home throughout the year. Marking each season with flowers and finishing touches.
“Warm cosy blankets in the winter are swapped for cool cotton throws in the summer. I add seasonal flowers into all of my rooms to breathe life into the space. I also like to change my cushions to suit the seasons. Heavier velvet ones in the winter and light cotton ones in summer. Creating a warm cosy feeling is so important to me. I love using candles and fairy lights all year round to create that hygge feeling.”
When we asked Sarah what three things make a home for her, candles, fresh flowers and “beautiful furniture from The Cotswold Company” topped the list. We have to admit, we’re inclined to agree!
