Ideas For Your Hallway

A place for everything and everything in its place

This is a saying we’re rather fond of here at Cotswold Co. It advocates a tidy, yet lived-in home – one that has been built on wonderful memories of busy family Christmases, summer dinner parties and quiet evenings in – and yet remains homely and clutter-free. It isn’t suggesting minimalism or a clinical, characterless home, but one that is ordered and familiar.

Known as the gateway into our homes, our hallways and entranceways are a notorious magnet for gathering clutter – with shoes, boots, coats and bags to contend with – it’s often difficult to keep this space a tidy and orderly one. One that greets you warmly when you return home – whatever kind of day you’ve had – or one that makes guests feel in a cosy home away from home as soon as they step through the front door.

There’s no question then, that storage is essential in this part of your home. It needs to be practical, accessible and fuss-free. Oh, and beautiful. Just because an item is intended to be practical, this doesn’t mean it can’t look nice, setting the scene for the rest of your home and painting a picture of your interior style from the outset.

We know it’s easy to neglect the hallway – whatever its size may be – as we only ever pass through it. It isn’t like the living room where we sit and talk, or like the bedroom where we go to relax and read, so inevitably, it becomes a bit of a forgotten space. And yet, our hallways provide that all important first impression, so creating one that is both personal and homely – and one that reflects your interior style – is crucial.

A splash of paint, as always, can make a world of difference to the look and feel of your hallway. Think about pale and muted shades to create a light, bright and welcoming entrance hall – one that will always make coming home the best feeling in the world.
